The questions to ask either option

  1. "Are you insured, and for how much?" Ask about goods-in-transit cover (your belongings) and public liability (damage to buildings or injury). Get the limits in writing.
  2. "Is the price fixed or hourly? What's included?" Stairs, dismantling, materials, Congestion Charge, waiting time.
  3. "What happens if the job runs over?" You want the overtime rate in writing.
  4. "Who will turn up, and with what vehicle?" Number of people and van size.
  5. "How do I pay, and when?" Be wary of cash-only firms with no paperwork.
  6. "What is your cancellation policy?"
  7. "Do you have a business address and reviews I can check?" Look at independent review sites, not just testimonials on their own website.

How Stairwell Moves fits in

Stairwell Moves will be a booking service, not a moving company. FAQs

Is a man and van insured?

Many are, but not all. Ask specifically about goods-in-transit insurance (covers your belongings in the van, often up to a set limit) and public liability insurance (covers damage to property or injury). Ask for the cover limits in writing.

When should I use a removal company instead?

For 3-bed-plus homes, long-distance moves, high-value or fragile items such as antiques, art or pianos, full packing services, or storage between moves, a full removal company is usually the better fit.

What is BAR?

The British Association of Removers is a trade association for removal companies. Members agree to its code of practice and dispute process. Many good man-and-van operators aren't members, so it's one signal among several.
